To develope a fibre optic sensor a sensitive, simple and rapid fluorometric procedure for determination of nitrite in the water is used. It is based on the reaction of nitrite with 2,3-diaminonaphtalene in acidic solution to form 1-(H)-naphthotriazole, a highly fluorescent compound in alkaline medium. The fluorescent intensity is increased with nitrite concentrations. The relation betwen R ((lf-l0)/(lm-l0)) and nitrite concentrions is linear. The study of the sensibility of nitrite and 2, 3-diaminonaphtalene is done.
