There have been being available in the market electric equipments for household usage which are promoted by the manufacturer able to save electric bill up to 30 %. They have various name depend on the manufacturer, because there is still no standard regulation covering it. Most of them are called energy saver, however, for convenient information, in this paper they are named as domestic power compensator. There are many questions from people about the bill saving ability of the equipments and some of them worried that installation of the equipment break PLN regulation (classified as illegal electric power consuming ?). For the reason, an investigation on the domestic power compensators have been conducted. There are available in the market two types of domestic power compensator, i.e. parallel installation type and series installation type. Investigation was performed by measuring load characteristic of the equipments using simulation load. The investigation result shows that the parallel installation type of domestic power compenstor is reactive power compensator (capacitor), wheras the series installation type is equipment performance regulator by decreasing the load supply voltage.
