In order to assure the safety of nuclear power plants, safety evaluation shall beconducted to the design of the plants. This performed by evaluating the safety of the plantduring transients or accidents in order to assess the adequacy of plant design especially thesafety equipments. Therefore, guidance on which the evaluation is based is necessary to beprepared. The guidance should contain information on broad spectrum of events expected tooccur during operation of the plant systematically grouped based on the nature of the eventsalong with the acceptance criteria applied. The acceptance criteria should be set according tothe type of events and the type of reactors since each type of reactors applies specifictechnology in the design. For instance, 4 and 5 acceptance criteria could be established forabnormal transient and accident conditions respectively for PWRs each applied specifically tothe type of events. The acceptance criteria are used as the basis to judge the adequacy of plantdesign in coping with deviation in operation.Kevwords: PWR, safety evaluation, abnormal transient, accidents, acceptance criteria.
