Before commencing applied research it is necessary a preliminary feasibility survey be carried out. Detailed techno-economic and commercial feasibility studies may be more important in a field such as food irradiation. The differences in the prospects and problems between developed and developing countries are addressed. Brief outlines of practical feasibility aspect for radiation preservation of potatoes, tropical fruits and sea-foods in developing countries, are given. P.
