The world is now witnessing the rapidly converging technologies of Telecommunication and Informatics which is often dubbed as ‘Telematics’. An excellent Telematics implementation is characterized by a highly integrated and well-managed components which are infrastructure, data, and application. This system should provide a top quality support demanded by the business processes that run on top of them. The integration spans not only inside a company, but also cross companies as people begin to see the potential benefit of integrating cross companies Telematics. Telematics is a potent combination of high technologies that undoubtedly causes a profound impact to the business world. Rapidly changing business climate requires excellent implementation of Telematics. The advances in Telematics expose either new or better ways of doing business. Telematics and business are influencing one another toward a progressively higher speed. Indonesian Petroleum industry is no exception. Companies involved in this industry do have business-processes that intertwined with Telematics. They found themselves exposed to the rapidly changing business world. Furthermore, they are facing some common issues such as: the Y2K problems, the launching of AFTA and so on. This paper will describe further the needs, the benefit and the effort to establish a cooperation among Indonesian Petroleum companies to handle and exploit the Telematics.
