Optimisation of a synchrotron radiation source.

>

In 1978 the European Science Foundation set up an ad hoc Committee on Synchrotron Radiation and since then the Committee's two sub-groups (Machine and Instrumentation) have been developing the idea of an optimised X-ray synchrotron radiation source for Europe. The properties of different types of source element (bending magnet or special insertion) have been analysed and a storage ring lattice developed which accommodates the requisite number of each. The resulting 'Pluralistic Synchrotron Radiation Facility' is described and mention is made of a number of other important features of such a machine. (orig.). Thompson,-D.J.
